Milestones

Quick update. You can tell things are improving when there’s more time in between posts.

I can drive (and have been)! Getting in and out is a bit tricky and my sitting position is basically at the maximum flexion I’m capable of right now, so I get tired and a bit sore after 30 minutes or so. But what a relief.

Sleep still sucks. I think it’s more to do with being motionless for extended periods. The aches and pains are not fun.

I’ve been brace-less and crutch-less for well over a week now. Feeling confident. I have to consciously activate my quad when I take a step, but my gait, balance and stability are all pretty good when I focus.

I’ve added air-squats to my every-other-day workouts. 10×3. Nothing remarkable, but it’s part of the program.

Physio continues to be good. The manual therapy of my kneecap is wickedly painful but productive. My therapist had me doing stationary bike (I can’t get my foot all the way around, so I just rock it back and forth to my limits for five minute intervals) and laying down leg presses without any load. The presses feel great – definitely a strong confidence booster.

I don’t anticipate any more significant breakthroughs – I think it’s slow and steady from now on. Small gains in flexion and strength every week. All good – I have small goals and lots of runway to achieve them.
