Wow, hard to believe it’s been nearly two months since my last post! Apologies. Working in the industry I do, the November-December season is crazy busy and not to mention it’s hardly cycling weather outside.
Regardless, I’ve been steadfast in my fitness since my last post (albeit a victim of holiday meal and snacking traditions), on my indoor trainer nearly every other day (3-4 times per week) and mixing in weight room time on off days.
Looking ahead towards a fulfilling 2014, I’m reminded how meaningful and significant cycling was to me in 2013. Bear in mind, I sat on a road bike for the very first time in October, 2012. By May, 2013 I’d lost nearly 15 lbs. off a body that was not significantly overweight to begin with. That same month I registered for the RBC Gran Fondo Whistler and associated 4-month My First Fondo clinic, and my training goals were set.
In 2013 I embraced challenging cycling goals, realistic and engaging opportunities to train for them, fulfillment of all and complete satisfaction that was both overwhelming and remains hard to convey. My wavelengths found harmony. My energy found an outlet. My busy and sometimes scattered mind found temperance. I found happiness in cycling.
As documented on this blog, I rode the Prospera Valley Medio Fondo (Fort Langley), the RBC Gran Fondo Whistler, and the Tour de Victoria. In all, according to my Garmin Connect, I totalled a little more than 3,600 km. in my first year.
Below are my statistics courtesy Garmin Connect for the year 2013. Stay tuned for my 2014 plans and goals, and as always, thanks for reading.
