Had two appointments this week: physio on Monday, and surgeon follow-up earlier today.
Physio went well. It was definitely more painful than the first visit. Chris spent some manual therapy time on the kneecap, loosening it up from the surrounding scar tissue. He was also keen to have me practice wall sits (not awesome) and leg extensions (just nasty). We worked my knee hard but it was productive. He’s quite pleased with how things are going.
Yesterday, I ventured out a bit more – namely, my son’s elementary school graduation event and a walk with my daughter to the grocery store. Both felt totally manageable and there were no issues.
Today, I met with my surgeon (this was a more classic hospital experience – 2.5 hrs with all of 5 minutes with the doctor). He’s similarly pleased with my progress – the kneecap is in the right spot and flexion looks good. I gleefully told him what I was up to and he warned me not to go too hard too fast, for fear of re-injuring myself. “Still healing” and “remember when I said 9-12 months” were the big take-aways. Heard.
But the best news was that I can start driving again in 2 weeks! I feel ready now, but he can’t clear me before 3 months. If I drive now, my insurance won’t cover me.
Driving again will be a godsend. We’re just starting summer camps featuring twice daily milkruns with the kids, and my wife hates driving. So the sooner I can take back that responsibility, the better.
